School starts about in a week and many of you probably still haven't went back to school shopping. And for those who already did, you might be thinking whether you bought the right items or not. So I want to dedicate this post to talk about what items I would recommend and some shopping tips! Below is a shopping list that I recommend to high school students. Other grade levels can use this list as well. Just don't buy notebooks you won't be needing. And obviously your teacher's material list is the priority. This list is very general.
I first want to give some tips. Make sure you always get the college ruled binder paper, notebooks, etc. College ruled looks professional, allows you to write more on a single side, and is used in junior high schools and high schools. Professors definitely prefer college ruled over wide ruled. Spiral notebooks or composition notebooks is also a popular debate. I would recommend you get spiral notebooks for math and science subjects because you may need to tear out sheets of paper from the notebook. Use the composition notebook for all the other subjects. The composition notebook has a more sturdy binding and is more compact. The binding on the spiral notebook might get in the way or even break so getting more composition notebooks is a plus.
Here are some of my recommended items for you. This is assuming you already have a good supply of stationary.
- 1 binder for all your subjects and to carry all the loose papers. Make sure to buy tabs for different subjects. I got the ones with numbers on them to stand as period numbers. So if science was my first period, I would use the 1 tab.
- 3 college ruled 100 pages spiral notebook. 2 notebooks are for math (notes and homework) and the other is for science.
- 2 college ruled 70 pages composition notebook. This is for language arts and social study. Most of these classes don't require that you rip anything out, so getting a notebook with a sturdy binding is preferable.
- Graph paper. If you don't plan on buying a graph notebook, you should get graph paper. In math, you usually have to graph stuff. Graphing paper makes it easier to draw diagonal lines than regular binder paper.
- Binder paper. This is the number 1 thing you need. A lot of teachers require that you turn in loose papers. Ripping the binder paper out from your notebook isn't convenient and it's really messy.
- If you have more courses like Chinese, you should definitely buy more composition notebooks rather than relying on binder paper.
